Modern Studies: The subject for today (and every day!)
Unique to the Scottish education system, Modern Studies is made up of three key components;
Sociology - studying how people live in society.
Politics - studying how we are governed and how ordinary people can have power.
International Relations - studying world problems and how they are solved.
What courses are on offer in the Modern Studies department?
Across the S1-S2 Modern Studies course pupils will develop skills for learning and life in literacy, numeracy, citizenship and thinking skills that enable them to undertake investigations into areas of study. We look at topics which include Human Rights, The USA, China, The Media and Democracy.
Our Department also offers Modern Studies and Politics for the following levels to pupils from S4-6;
- National 4
- National 5 · Higher Modern Studies
- Higher Politics
- Advanced Higher Modern Studies
